Founded in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM was the first NGO focused on healthcare to be recognized by the Italian government. It is now one of the leading organization working to protect and improve the well-being and health of vulnerable communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The NGO promotes long-term health cooperation projects, intervening also in emergencies to ensure that services are available to all.

Doctors with Africa CUAMM is currently active in 9 Sub-Saharan countries: Angola, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda. The NGO supports public and non-profit hospitals, local districts, schools of nursing and midwifery, university faculties of medicine.

CUAMM’s action focuses on health system strengthening and targets the weakest population groups, particularly women and children. Interventions include prevention, screening and treatment programmes; development or strengthening of referral systems at community level; training of health staff; management support and technical assistance to local health institutions; field research.

CUAMM’s international and national staff work together on the front line to strengthen local health systems, in resource-limited contexts where the commitment and contribution of the individual can make a real difference. Job position: Director of Operations

Location: Nampula, Mozambique

Start date: February 2025

 Duration: 12 months

Family duty station: YES

Purpose of the role

The Director of Operations will be part of a project aimed at promoting access to clean cooking and improving the health status of vulnerable families by strengthening the local health system and implementing health promotion activities.

Key duties

  • Ensuring procurement, storage and transportation of efficient stoves for domestic use and supervising their distribution
  • Recruiting, selecting and training the distribution teams
  • Supporting the logistical organization of the distribution and the contextual health and nutritional education activities

Requirements

  • Proven professional experience in logistics (procurement, transport, distribution, supply chain) in fragile countries and/or low resource settings
  • Good knowledge of Portuguese
  • Good knowledge of English and/or Italian
  • Problem solving aptitude and organizational skills
  • Dynamism, adaptability and flexibility

TERMS OF CONTRACT

Type of contract: collaboration contract

Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the job position, with possible increase based on professional experience)

Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work, for contracts longer than 4 months

Flight ticket: one return flight

Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs

Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa

Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it is generally individual, depending on the logistical situation and the availability of accommodation in the workplace

Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker

Family policy: where the socio-political context and logistics allow it, international staff may be accompanied by their partner or family. In this case, the NGO provides a salary supplement and guarantees flights, health insurance, visas and permits for dependents and accompanying family members.
