Job Description
Still I Rise, an international NGO, works on the development and implementation of humanitarian projects aimed at the education and support of refugee children and vulnerable youth, is looking for a Programs Director to join its current staff. The selected person will be responsible for the organization, management and supervision of Still I Rise’s programs in Greece, Turkey, Syria, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, and all future programs. This position involves working both independently and within a team whilst leading our Program Managers and School Principals on the ground. The Programs Director will be a proactive and energetic person with strong organisational, monitoring, and multitasking abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Implementing Still I Rise vision across all programs and related departments.
Planning
- Planning, designing and delivering operational plans and monitoring objectives.
- Develop and improve project cycle management tools and processes including logframes, stakeholder analysis, gantt charts and risk management
- Plan ahead of time, foresee issues and act on them – bring up situations to the board and propose solutions.
- Develop, plan and implement long-term operational and financial strategies in collaboration with relevant Directors and Managers.
Research & Reporting
- Planning, monitoring and supervising the implementation of strategies for research conduction and data gathering.
- Provide guidance to the Set-Up Team while conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis and reporting, identifying best practices and research tools.
- Supervising the writing of periodical reports, estimates, and relevant documentation concerning local laws, normative framework, national labour codes, and wages, among others.
- Maintain weekly and monthly updates with the CEO and the Leadership team.
- Filing periodical internal reports, ensuring ad-hoc requests and needs are met.
Management & Monitoring
- Managing and maintaining the program’s budget and tracking expenses supervision.
- Handle the project related financial administration in coordination with the Finance Department.
- Make sure SIR’s processes and systems are kept in place on all the programs and act promptly if there are issues.
- Supervising Program managers and School Principals on ensuring compliance with normative organization framework, national and international procedures, policies, as well as regulatory codes and local laws
- Monitoring weekly and monthly quantitative and qualitative data through KPI’s and observations.
- Supervision of monthly KPIs related to each specific project, and programs.
- Supervising Program Manager and School Principals on coordinating efforts with humanitarian partners.
- Coordination with the Leadership Team to identify, develop and promote tools, guidelines and best practices for organisational development (strategies, internal policies, etc.), and adapt to multiple organisational changes to the needs and priorities not only of the Programs Department.
- Coordination with the COO for feasibility studies, risk management and legal aspects regarding both ongoing and future programs.
- Mentor and support the Program Managers and School Principals, making sure their teams are well-managed and supported as well as the activities implemented consistently and coherently with the organization’s vision and guidelines, within an ever-changing and challenging environment.
- Support emergency situations on the ground in cooperation with the Program Manager/School Principal and the CEO.
- Make sure reports and documents are filled in in a timely manner and issues addressed immediately and with the relevant stakeholders.
- Liaise on a regular basis with other departments if needed (including but not limited to Advocacy, Education, HR, Marketing and Fundraising) sharing material, bringing up issues, discussing strategies and implementation, following up on implementation on the programs.
- Coordinating Set-Up Teams with the creation, implementation, and improvements of structures to support the programs.
Essential Requirements
- At least 3 years experience in managing people.
- Experience in accounting, financial management and budgeting.
- Experience working with refugee populations and/or in the human rights field.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent organisation skills.
- Good IT skills including use of MS Office, Google Drive, accounting software and Slack.
- Fluent knowledge of the English language written and oral, Italian is a plus.
- Completion of CRB/background check.
- Knowledge of performance evaluation techniques.

Desirable criteria
- Experience working in a non-profit.
- Experience in the education field.
- Knowledge of Arabic, Turkish, Greek, French, Spanish or Swahili is a plus.
- University Career in International Relations, Global affairs, Public administration, Political science or Sociology.
- Grant writing/project writing.
