Description
WeWorld-GVC, is an Italian secular and independent organization working since 1971 in international cooperation and humanitarian aid. Present in 29 countries with 128 projects, WeWorld-GVC operates in the following areas of assistance: human rights (gender equality, prevention and combating violence against children and women, migration), humanitarian aid (prevention, emergency relief and rehabilitation), food security, access to water, health and hygiene, education, global citizenship education, quality teaching and international volunteering. WeWorld-GVC works mostly with girls, boys, women and youth, actors of change in every community for a fairer and more inclusive world. Supports people overcoming emergencies and guarantees a life with dignity, opportunities and a better future through human and economic development programs, in the framework of the 2030 Agenda. Working context
WeWorld-GVC has been working in Tanzania since 2010 in the areas of promotion of access to basic education, protection, health/nutrition, water and sanitation services and rural energy facility. WeWorld-GVC has been implementing different school-centred programs in Dar es Salaam and in Ludewa district (Njombe region), reaching almost 25,000 beneficiaries, mainly children, adolescents, parents and school personnel. The programs adopt a multisector approach (education, health, nutrition, protection) to respond to the different needs of children and simultaneously strengthening community care structures to create better conditions for ensuring children’s wellbeing and protection. WeWorld-GVC works in partnership with Local Authorities and it is an active member of TENMET, the Tanzania Education Network, supporting the achievement of the Education For All goals. In Dar es Salaam, WeWorld-GVC has been also supporting a Center which provides different services to vulnerable children and youth. Since March 2020, WeWorld-GVC is implementing a project in the regions of Kigoma, Mbeya and Mtwara, co-funded by the European Union, which aims at enhancing the capacity of Civil Society Organizations and media to ensure that all citizens, with particular focus on women and youth, are free to express themselves and have equal access to reliable and independent information and knowledge on fundamental freedoms.
Job description
Scope of the job
WeWorld-GVC is recruiting a Program Assistant to provide operational and administrative assistance to the team in Tanzania. Under the direction of the Country Representative, the Program Assistant performs a variety of administrative, coordination and logistical services in support of the operations of the Program. She/he will be based in Dar es Salaam and she/he may be requested to travel to the areas where projects are implemented (Njombe, Mbeya, Mtwara, Kigoma).
Main responsibilities
Programme Management Support
- Provide program and administrative support to the team in the preparation of various project documents, such as work plans, budgets and reports
- Monitor project activities and progress towards achieving the project outputs through the analysis of indicators and various type of data and project documents
- Maintain and update databases and project records/documents (hardcopy and electronic archive) such as attendance sheets, MoU, Minutes of meetings, etc
- Support the organization of training sessions and project public events (workshops, etc.)
- Identify areas where technical support to the local team, including partners’ team, is required
- Assist the team in preparing procurement of goods and services, in line with WeWorld-GVC and Donors’ procedures
- Support proposal development processes by providing inputs to narrative and financial planning, including the analysis of secondary information sources and statistics on the operational context and sector of operation
- Support the supervision of local staff to ensure compliance with the internal regulation and other procedures
Financial/Administrative Management Support
- Support the Admin/Finance team in reviewing the financial reports of the partner organizations in order to assure compliance with MOU and eligibility of expenditures as per with WeWorld-GVC and Donors’ procedures.
- Provide supervision to ensure that the hardcopies and electronic copies of the supporting documentation is available (contracts, invoices, etc.)
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Knowledge:
- Master Degree in Development Studies, Political Science, Sociology, International relations or other relevant fields
- MSOffice proficient user
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English (mandatory)
- Spoken and written Italian (mandatory)
Professional Experience:
- At least one (1) years of relevant overseas experience in international cooperation
Skills and Abilities
- Capable of working in team and supporting staff and partners in all phases of the Project Cycle Management
- Excellent communication skill and sensitivity in dealing with local institutions on critical issues
- Willing to work in close cooperation with the partners, also through frequent and extended field visits
- Flexible, patient and with a positive attitude
- Dynamic and willing to take initiative to complete tasks assigned
- Problem-solver approach with demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and creating efficiencies
- Strong commitment to the Mission of WeWorld-GVC, genuine interest for international cooperation development topics
- Demonstrates integrity by modelling the NGO values and ethical standards; displays cultural, gender, religion, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability
DESIDERABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in development projects in Tanzania will be considered a plus
- Knowledge of written and spoken Kiswahili
