Founded in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM was the first NGO focused on healthcare to be recognized by the Italian government. It is now one of the leading organization working to protect and improve the well-being and health of vulnerable communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The NGO promotes long-term health cooperation projects, intervening also in emergencies to ensure that services are available to all.
Doctors with Africa CUAMM is currently active in 9 Sub-Saharan countries: Angola, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda. The NGO supports public and non-profit hospitals, local districts, schools of nursing and midwifery, university faculties of medicine.
CUAMM’s action focuses on health system strengthening and targets the weakest population groups, particularly women and children. Interventions include prevention, screening and treatment programmes; development or strengthening of referral systems at community level; training of health staff; management support and technical assistance to local health institutions; field research.
CUAMM’s international and national staff work together on the front line to strengthen local health systems, in resource-limited contexts where the commitment and contribution of the individual can make a real difference. Job position: Humanitarian Expert
Location: Dollo Ado and Dollobay, Liben and Afder Zones, Somali Region, Ethiopia

Purpose of the role
The Humanitarian Expert will work closely with the Project Manager, to ensure quality and technical support to management and implementation of an emergency project aiming to contribute to saving lives, preventing mortality and reducing acute malnutrition and disease through integrated multi-sectoral activities,
Key duties
- Monitoring the level of achievement of targets and the progress of activities, contributing to the planning of any missing activities
- Verifying and validating the work plan, the Operational Plan and the Periodic Monitoring Plan
- Monitoring the operational process and proposes possible adjustments
- Contributing to the evaluation of project staff, verifying correspondence between tasks and job description
- Maintaining and developing relations with local authorities at different levels
Requirements
- Degree in development cooperation, social work or related field
- Good knowledge of English
- Previous experience in managing cooperation projects in fragile and/or low resources countries; previous experience in managing health projects will be an asset
- Previous experience in managing emergency projects will be considered an asset
- High adaptability to live and work in remote areas and difficult conditions
TERMS OF CONTRACT
Type of contract: collaboration contract
Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy
Flight ticket: one return flight
Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs
Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa
Accommodation: provided by the NGO
Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker
