Founded in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM was the first NGO focused on healthcare to be recognized by the Italian government. It is now one of the leading organization working to protect and improve the well-being and health of vulnerable communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The NGO promotes long-term health cooperation projects, intervening also in emergencies to ensure that services are available to all.

Doctors with Africa CUAMM is currently active in 9 Sub-Saharan countries: Angola, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda. The NGO supports public and non-profit hospitals, local districts, schools of nursing and midwifery, university faculties of medicine.

CUAMM’s action focuses on health system strengthening and targets the weakest population groups, particularly women and children. Interventions include prevention, screening and treatment programmes; development or strengthening of referral systems at community level; training of health staff; management support and technical assistance to local health institutions; field research.

CUAMM’s international and national staff work together on the front line to strengthen local health systems, in resource-limited contexts where the commitment and contribution of the individual can make a real difference. Job position: Logistician

Location: Abidjan, Ivory Coast

Start date: January 2025**

Duration: 12 months

Purpose of the role

Within a project focused on mother and child health aiming at enhancing the access to quality health services in Abobo Hospital and rehabilitating the neonatal unit, the Logistician is responsible for the smooth running of all logistical aspects with particular attention to the major procurement and distribution component of the project, ensuring that all related activities are carried out properly, on schedule and according to the procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervising logistics in the project’s location
  • Training and supervising national logistics staff
  • Managing and documenting procurement and related procedures – including tenders – ensuring that all required documentation is available
  • Assisting in drafting and updating the procurement plan
  • Ensuring that each purchase is supported by the correct documentation
  • Properly managing relationships and contracts with local and international suppliers
  • Ensuring receipt, storage and delivery of materials and equipment
  • Supervising and ensuring the proper operation and maintenance of vehicles
  • Ensuring and supervising the adequacy and routine maintenance of offices and staff housing

Requirements

  • Proven professional experience in logistics (procurement, transport, distribution, supply chain) in fragile countries and/or low-resources settings, preferably with NGOs
  • Good knowledge and experience in using PRAG procedures
  • Good knowledge of French
  • Good knowledge of Italian
  • Problem-solving aptitude and organizational skills
  • Dynamism, adaptability and flexibility

TERMS OF CONTRACT

Type of contract: collaboration contract

Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the job position, with possible increase based on professional experience)

Annual leave: 2.5 days for each month of work, for contracts longer than 4 months

Flight ticket: one return flight

Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs

Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa and work/residence permits

Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it is generally individual, depending on the logistical situation and the availability of accommodation in the workplace

Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker

Family policy: where the socio-political context and logistics allow it, international staff may be accompanied by their partner or family. In this case, the NGO provides a salary supplement and guarantees flights, health insurance, visas and permits for dependents and accompanying family members.
