Purpose of the role

The Logistician will work closely with the hospital’s internal departments (particularly Chef des Matériels and Chef de Maintenance) at the Bangui Pediatric Complex (CHUPB), and will support hospital logistics managers in planning routine and extraordinary maintenance of CHUPB facilities and equipment, rehabilitating infrastructure, and preparing and updating maintenance work reports and documentation.

Key duties

  • To support and carry out the planning of periodic assessment of the facilities in order to prevent, identify and solve technical problems related to the Electrical, Plumbing, Ventilation, Waste Disposal, Pest Control System, etc.
  • To support the hospital maintenance unit staff to identify needs and priorities and process purchase requisitions, including bills of materials needed, to be shared with the CHUPB administrative and Project Manager
  • To fill out and update equipment data sheets for any work performed and check that they are filled out correctly by the technical officer for work under his or her responsibility
  • To support the maintenance and CMAT unit staff in stock management and in the periodic creation and updating of inventories of materials in the warehouse
  • To manage and document the procurement of drugs, consumables, reagents, equipment, etc. in compliance with CUAMM’s and donors’ purchasing procedures by verifying the quality of local supplies in close collaboration with the pharmacist and project administrator, coordinating with the logistician coordinator in terms of customs clearance procedures and transitaire relations
  • To supervise the proper use of CHUPB vehicles in terms of logbook, routine and extraordinary maintenance within the defined needs planning
  • To conduct periodic coordination meetings with the maintenance unit

For the extraordinary maintenance works included in the projects, the Logistician is expected to:

  • facilitate the validation of the layout of the infrastructure to be rehabilitated in close collaboration with the Construction Manager of the CUAMM office in Padua
  • ensure the execution and supervision of CHUPB extraordinary maintenance works, sharing critical issues with the Project Manager on a timely basis
  • establish and maintain good relationships with contractors and service providers; monitor contractors’ work in the field
  • prepare monthly technical reports and share them with agreed contact persons.
  • ensure proper documentation of rehabilitation work performed
  • draft and share with Project Manager, Coordinating Logistician and CUAMM Padua headquarters a detailed end-of-mission report

Requirements

  • Previous professional experience in logistics (procurement and transportation management, maintenance, small rehabilitation) in fragile countries and/or resource-limited settings
  • Excellent knowledge of the French language
  • Aptitude for problem solving and organizational skills
  • Dynamism, adaptability and flexibility

TERMS OF CONTRACT

Type of contract: collaboration contract

Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the job position, with possible increase based on professional experience and country risk allowance)

Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work, for contracts longer than 4 months

Flight ticket: one return flight for the first collaboration for up to 12 months

Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs

Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa, professional registration, work and residence permits

Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it is generally individual, depending on the logistical situation and the availability of accommodation in the workplace

Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker

R&R: 1 week of rest every 11 weeks of work, with allowance to cover costs
