Still I Rise, an international NGO that works on the development and implementation of humanitarian projects aimed at the education and support of refugee children and teenagers, is looking for a Child Protection Officer to join its current staff on Samos.

With a safe and welcoming environment in our schools, constant support, tailored learning and behavioral plans, our staff on locations makes sure children are supported in their learning.
The selected person will join the team on the ground and will be responsible for managing and overseeing the implementation of safeguarding systems, protection policies and PSS strategies. The selected person will also be responsible for the development and adaptation of individual behavioural and learning plans for different children to local contexts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Train and supervise the teaching, volunteering and coordinating team on the ground on Child Protection and Safeguarding policies
- Develop and implement strategies (with the support of the CSP manger) on supporting children who have experienced and continue to experience trauma, using evidence-based and up-to-date trauma informed interventions
- Develop individualized behavioral and learning support strategies for students with additional needs in collaboration with the Educational Manager
- Develop, organize and implement targeted group extra curricular activities depending on students needs
- Plan and run 1:1 counseling sessions with students requiring additional support
- Ensure that children at risk are identified and receive appropriate individualized case management support
- Make referrals to relevant protection actors and special services
- Advocate and promote children children’s rights, safety and wellbeing
- Advocate and liaise with authorities and other actors to ensure the protection of vulnerable children
- Regularly report Child concerns to the Program Manger where appropriate
- Regularly report to the Child Protection and Safeguarding (CSP) Manager
- Report students’ needs to the Center Manager
- Ensure all incidents are correctly recorded in the software and reported to the team when appropriate
- Follow up, together with CSP Manager, any referral of child protection concerns as well as child safeguarding issues.
- Work closely with teachers to assess and refer children in need of additional support.
- Work with the CSP Manager to ensure Child Protection policies are implemented and followed
- Attend and participate in scheduled Child Protection meeting with other organisations on the island
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
- Degree in a specialist technical or professional field relevant to role (e.g. Child Protection, Child Rights, Psychology, Occupational Therapy)
- Experience with case management and referrals
- Experience working with vulnerable and traumatised children and teenagers
- Experience working with displaced / asylum seeking children
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities
- Commitment and willingness to work in a challenging environment
- High level of accountability over work
- Provision of creative solutions and ways of seeing
- Excellent communication skills, both writing and speaking.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good IT skills including use of MS Office, Google Drive, Trello and Slack.
- Native-like fluency in English
- Minimum 23 years old
- Completion of CRB/Background check
- Eligibility to work and reside in GReece without visa requirements
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE and SKILLS
- Fluency in any of the following languages: Arabic, Farsi, French, Portuguese, Greek
- Experience in the education sector or working within a school setting
- Knowledge of the relevant protection actors in Greece
- Experience working in a non-profit environment
COMPENSATION
Shared accommodation will be provided. Additionally, we provide approximately 400 euros monthly to cover day-to-day expenses.
COVID-19 SAFETY PROCEDURES
Required testing and quarantine period dependent on Greek requirements and regulations. Once the country of origin is determined we will define an appropriate travel plan upon hire.
