EMERGENCY is an independent and neutral humanitarian non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in Italy in 1994 to provide free-of-charge, high quality medical and surgical care in countries affected by war and poverty. EMERGENCY runs over 70 hospitals, clinics and first aid posts around the world. The main office is located in Milan, Italy and the International network comprises country offices in Belgium, Switzerland, UK, USA, and several volunteers groups.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
EMERGENCY is looking for a curricular Intern to support the Trusts and Foundations Department. The position requires a dynamic, proactive and enthusiastic candidate. Flexibility and multitasking approach are also essential. The department aims at providing an important income stream for the organisation and going forward the plan is to broaden further the Trust fundraising portfolio. The Trusts Fundraising Intern will play a supporting role in researching potential funders, writing funding applications, helping the team to meet reporting requirements with existing funders, drafting compelling case studies and ad hoc researches.
The position will report to and work with the Trusts and Foundations Lead and will collaborate with Grants and Development Officer. The location of the position is the EMERGENCY head office in Milan.
Key responsibilities
- Contributing to an agreed annual income target from trusts, foundations and other awards;
- Identifying and researching prospective trust funders and grant makers;
- Assisting colleagues by preparing first draft applications and reports;
- Preparing, writing and editing high quality funding applications to agreed prospective and existing funders and meeting deadlines;
- Assisting the team in monitoring financial records;
- Using the database effectively to keep accurate records of funding applications and donors’ care;
- Creating effective case studies and researches to demonstrate the impact the charity has on beneficiaries and stakeholders.
Required skills
- Excellent level of English and very good knowledge of Italian;
- Excellent writing skills in English and Italian and ability to condense complex information into simple narrative;
- Sound knowledge of Project Cycle Management and Fundraising techniques;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
- Study experience abroad will be considered a plus.
Education and previous experience
Education background in international relations, human rights, or related fields.
Contract
The successful candidate will be offered a six-month curricular internship in respect of the safeguards provided by law.
