I. CONTEXT OF THE MISSION
Médecins du Monde (MdM) is an international humanitarian organisation whose mission is to provide medical care for the most vulnerable populations, the world over. It seeks to stimulate voluntary commitment from doctors, other health care providers, and from those whose expertise in other fields is needed for its activities, to enlist all competent support required for the achievement of its projects, and to seek at all times to encourage close working relationships with populations in its care. The goal of MdM is to intervene in the Mediterranean Sea throughout a humanitarian action including a “ground” and “sea” intervention as well as an advocacy dimension.
MdM is working in Italy since the end of 2015 with a health and psychosocial programme for migrants arrived in Calabria (with a focus on unaccompanied migrants and women). From June 2017, MdM started a collaboration with UNICEF aiming to increase opportunities for UASCs to have access to social inclusion as well to strengthened the capacity of the services provide operating in the reception centers in Reggio Calabria province and from April 2018 it is foreseen to extend the project implementation to all Calabria region.
II. HUMAN RESOURCES OF THE MISSION
A general coordination: General Coordinator, Medical Coordinator, Administrative and Logistic coordinator, Advocacy manager – base in Rome
Project team: Field Manager, psychologists, mediators, health advisor and admin assistant – base in Reggio Calabria
III. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Under the direct supervision of the MHPSS Manager, the social worker is responsible to support the team the implementation of psychosocial activities organised in the reception system
Duties and responsibility
Develop and organise training for frontline workers (such as social workers and educators) from the reception centers based on the identified needs and monitoring the impact of the training in coordination with MdM Team
Follow up and coaching the frontline workers (social workers and the educators) of reception centres in planning education/ psychosocial activities
Organise, implement and follow up the psychosocial activities according the project requirement
Contribute to organize and follow up other activities such as workshops, training sessions, public meetings, etc.Contribute to the development a mapping of the existing local opportunities for education and social inclusion for UASC and facilitate the link with the target reception centers
Support frontline workers in the mental health referral system through the identification of appropriate structures and follow up the cases referred when it is needed
Contribute to the elaboration of the MDM communication and advocacy strategy
Support to conduct needs assessments and to participate in formulating and designing new projects
Plan the activities and update the calendar on a weekly basis
Provide a weekly/monthly report according to MdM procedures
Keep and improve the current data collection system for mental health activities according with the needs of reporting
Maintain good socio-professional relationships with partners and beneficiaries
IV. POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements
Bachelor of Social Work or similar degree
At least 2 years of experiences in the same position, preferable in south Italy
Working experience in migration sector and with international organizations is an asset
Good knowledge of technical tools (e.g. P.E.I, skills assessments, etc.)
Fluent written and spoken English and French. Other languages are highly desirable
Availability to travel 2 or 3 days a week
Other requirements
Knowledge of the Calabria context is highly desirable
Previous experience in managing groups and organization of psychosocial activities
Good knowledge of Windows (i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point)
Personal qualities: Very strong interpersonal skills, facilitation skills, network-builder, flexible, team player, time-management skills, able to handle pressure well and capability to take initiatives
You are committed to MdM’s values as an organization and motivated by its non-statutory, NFP model.
MdM reserves the right to withdraw the position in case of lack of funding.
