Context:
Un ponte per… (UPP) is an NGO established in 1991. It has started its activities as “Un ponte per Baghdad”, right after the end of the war in Iraq, with the aim of organizing solidarity initiatives in favor of the Iraqi civil society. Later on, the intervention of Un ponte per… started including Serbia and other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. The NGO mission is to prevent new conflicts, protect human rights and support civil society, especially in the Middle East, through awareness raising and advocacy campaigns, cultural exchanges, humanitarian and peacebuilding projects. UPP is active in Iraq since 1991 and is regularly registered at National and Kurdistan Region levels. Since 2012 UPP implements several programs to assist Syrian refugees and IDPs. In 2016 UPP started a programme of humanitarian operations in the North East of Syria.
Role and Responsabilities
The security and safety advisor is responsible for the review and the oversight of the organizational strategy for staff safety and security in Middle East, for setting the procedures and operational standards for safety and security throughout the organization and for assisting in their implementation via the director and the desks based in the UPP headquarters in Rome (Italy) . This role includes the threat assessment and advising on security risk management, providing safety and security training for expatriate and local staff, supervising and approving sensitive staff movements, reviewing security evacuation and health plans and implementation.
Essential Requirements:
Specific and detailed knowledge of security and communications requirements
Demonstrated experience and exposure to NGO Security including assisting international organizations in developing a strategy and operational plans to ensure staff safety and security
Demonstrated knowledge of Middle East region
Solid training skills and the ability to develop training sessions
Experience in hostile and stressful environments.
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
Proven capacities to plan activities successfully targeting results and objectives.
Excellent oral and written English. Arabic and Italian are an asset.
